System of Homeopathy – Its origin, concept and method of cure is briefly described below.
Homeopathic remedies are based on the concept that ‘like cures like’, an ancient philosophy that can be traced back to the 5th century BC when it was formulated by Hippocrates-ancient Greek physician regarded as” Father of Medicine “. In the early 1800, this idea awakened the interest of German Physician Chrstian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann best known for creating the system of homeopathy as alternative medicine. System of homeopathy is based on the work of Hahnemann. The medicines are derived from plants and minerals and they are used in extremely diluted form. Indeed, it is believed that the curative properties are enhanced by each dilution because impurities that might cause unwanted side effects are lost. . The remedies are made into tablets or may be used in the form pills, ointment, solution, and powder. High potency (i.e., more dilute) remedies are used for severe symptoms and lower potency (less dilute) for milder ones.
As an alternative to main stream medicine, homeopathy is intended to cure illness or disorder by treating holistically rather than merely concentrating on a set of symptoms. In homeopathic remedy both the symptoms and the characteristics / temperament of the patient is kept in mind while giving the treatment. Hence two patients with the same illness may be offered different remedies according to their individual nature. It is widely accepted that homeopathic remedies are safe and non-addictive.
The homeopathic view is that during the process of healing, symptoms are redirected from more important to less important body systems. It is also held that healing is from innermost to outermost parts of the body and that more recent symptoms disappear first, this being known as the ‘law of direction of cure’. Occasionally, symptoms may worsen initially when a homeopathic remedy is taken, but this is usually short-lived and is known as ‘healing crises’. It is taken to indicate a change and that improvement is likely to follow. Usually with homeopathic remedy, an improvement is noticed fairly quickly although this depends upon the nature of the ailment age, health and well-being of the patient and potency of the remedy.
